Seeking a Coven

Resources for those Seeking a Coven, Circle, or Study Group

One of the most frequent questions we get is the request that we direct people to covens or circles that are accepting new members. Although we can't match you with groups, we can offer some resources to help you either find or start a group that will help you learn and satisfy your needs.

Know What You Want

Take some time to clarify your goals. Are you interested in reading books and discussing them, or would you rather have a ritual group? What kind of leadership structure do you want? Will each member take turns hosting and organizing the meetings, or do you want someone to be in charge? How are you most comfortable with the group making decisions? What kinds of skills or magic do you want to make your focus? If divination with Tarot is your passion, you probably won't want to work with a group that has no interest in the cards. Do you want to work with people who are all on the same experience level, or do you prefer a group with mixed ability levels? How about gender: do you want a single sex group, or are men and women both welcome? These are some of the things that need to be considered before you can find the right match.

Meeting Others

The best ways we know to meet other like-minded people who share an interest in witchcraft is by:

  1. attending public rituals and talking to people before and afterward

  2. taking part in a class or a workshop

  3. getting involved in the magical activism cluster

  4. subscribing to the bulletin board discussion group

We meet dozens of local witches who tell us that it is difficult to meet others. The best way to improve your chances of finding people you'd like to work with is by considering what you want, and then talking about your ideas with other people.

To find out how to join the bulletin board group, visit the How to Get Involved link. For information on classes, workshops, and public rituals, try the Events page.

Some useful links for finding groups

These links tend to lead to lists of groups and organizations which are not necessarily working in the Reclaiming Tradition.

Nine Houses of Gaia's Community Directory page offers listings of groups in Oregon, Washington, and lower British Columbia.

The Witches' Voice Oregon pages offer information on Oregon groups, events, and individuals.
